Counselors have completed their senior year of high-school at minimum. They must be young men and women who enjoy working with youth, are highly responsible, skilled relationally, and ministry minded. They work with two to three co-counselors and are directly managed by two Girls Side Bosses and two Guys Side Bosses.
Counselors are responsible for providing care and supervision for the campers assigned to their cabin. A counselor’s main priorities are camper safety, fun, and spiritual growth. Counselors have daily involvement in morning devotional time, cabin clean-up, activities, group games, meals, intentional free time with campers, nightly all-camp gathering (“Roundup”), nightly cabin discussions and prayer, late-night events and more. During activity times, counselors are assigned an activity to supervise and lead.
The position of Counselor offers an opportunity to gain leadership experience by managing and mentoring youth. Counselors manage campers during tasks, activities, daily responsibilities, and programmatic experiences. They spend time getting to know campers and encouraging them to share about life at home. They provide spiritual leadership and encouragement as they facilitate discussions about God and faith. Being a counselor is also an opportunity to grow and be developed personally through Bible studies, discussions, and regular meetings with direct supervisors and peers.
Program Crew (PC) is made up of twelve to fourteen young men who have just completed their junior year of high-school. It is a volunteer support staff position which provides service to LLYC and its campers and staff. PC members must be willing to work long, hard days, be team players, and have a desire to grow. They are directly managed by two PC Bosses.
Program Crew plays a critical role in the ministry of camp by contributing to the overall efficiency of our entire program. PC is responsible for assisting and supporting the daily operations of both youth camps, Singing Hills and Echo Valley. PC members will be directly involved in facility operations (food transport, trash collection and transport, etc.) as well as program event set-ups and breakdowns. PC members must also be flexible about assignments related to camp needs as they occur.
The Program Crew experience is also designed with the growth of the participant in mind. PC members will be challenged to grow through group sharing and discussions, Bible study, opportunities to let loose and have fun, as well as through the experience of working hard on a team.
Work Crew is made up of fourteen to sixteen young women who have just completed their junior year of high-school. It is a volunteer support staff position which provides service to LLYC and its campers and staff. Work Crew members must be willing to work long, hard days, be team players, and have a desire to grow. They are directly managed by two Work Crew Bosses.
Work Crew plays a critical role in the ministry of camp by demonstrating LLYC’s passion for hospitality, service and care for everyone at camp. Work Crew is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and the Ranch House as well as serving meals and cleaning dishes. Work Crew may also be called upon to serve in other capacities as needs arise. There are separate Work Crews for both youth camps, Singing Hills and Echo Valley.
The Work Crew experience is also designed with the growth of the participant in mind. Work Crew members will be challenged to grow through group sharing and discussions, Bible study, opportunities to let loose and have fun, as well as through the experience of working hard on a team.
LLYC cooks must have completed their senior year of high-school at minimum. They will work together with a relatively small team of people in the kitchen. Cooks at LLYC must be open to learning and finding joy in the ministry of food service and hospitality. They must also be team players who have a commitment to excellence. Previous experience in a kitchen is not required. Cooks are directly managed by the Lead Cooks and Ranch House Manager.
Cooks are responsible for the daily preparation and presentation of camp meals. There are separate cook teams for each youth camp, Singing Hills and Echo Valley. Cooks prepare meals for between 200 and 400 people. LLYC has the highest standards for food service and we care deeply about the experience of a shared meal. Cooks work in a small community, delve into tight-knit relationships and get first-hand food service experience in an exciting setting.
The position of Cook in an LLYC kitchen is an opportunity to learn a challenging, technical job in an inviting and fun environment. Cooks develop useful food service skills and techniques, learn teamwork and discipline, and are challenged to grow spiritually. Cooks also have opportunities to join in the camp program and events as well as be involved in relational ministry to campers as their schedule allows.
Sugar Shack Assistance must have completed their senior year of high-school at minimum. They will work together with a relatively small team of people in the Sugar Shack. Sugar Shack Assistants must be friendly, articulate, service-minded, detail-oriented, and organized. They are directly managed by two Sugar Shack Bosses.
Sugar Shack Assistants serve LLYC families, campers and staff by operating our camp phones, camp store, mail, and camp e-mail and care package services. Serving in the Sugar Shack is a tremendous responsibility, both in terms of facilitating the operation of camp and in directly impacting the lives of campers. The Sugar Shack role is highly visible to campers, staff and families. Therefore, it offers an opportunity to minister daily through friendly interactions and excellent service.
The position of Sugar Shack Assistant offers an opportunity to learn inventory management, customer service skills, and organizational skills as well as be challenged spiritually and encouraged to grow through group sharing and discussions. Sugar Shack Assistants also have opportunities to join in the camp program and events as well as be involved in relational ministry to campers as their schedule allows.
Canyon Club Counselors must have completed their junior year of high-school at minimum. They will work on a relatively small team of people to run a program for the children of the full-time staff in the Canyon. Canyon Club Counselors must have a love for young children and a desire to creatively minister to and nurture them on a daily basis. Canyon Club Counselors are directly managed by two Canyon Club Bosses.
Canyon Club Counselors serve as care givers and mentors for the children of the full-time staff who live in the Canyon during the summer. Serving as a Canyon Club Counselor is a tremendous responsibility, both in terms of supporting and enabling the operations of camp and in directly impacting the lives of these young children.
The position of Canyon Club Counselor offers an opportunity to develop skills in facilitation of childcare, education, and interactive play. It also offers an opportunity to be challenged spiritually and encouraged to grow through group sharing, discussions and Bible study. Canyon Club Counselors also have opportunities to join in the camp program and events as well as be involved in relational ministry to campers as their schedule allows.
Videographers must have completed their senior year of high-school at minimum. They will work on a relatively small Media Team to capture camp in action. Videographers must have some previous experience in videography, video editing and production and will be required to submit samples of their previous work. They should be self-motivated, organized, creative, and have an eye for excellence. They are directly managed by the Media Team Boss.
Videographers follow a production schedule. They shoot and edit footage daily with the goal of producing a high-quality video of each session of camp which must be completed on time before the end of each session. Videographers also shoot and edit additional short videos as necessary for our programs.
The position of Videographer offers an opportunity to develop technical skills and produce quality, resume-boosting work in the field of digital media. It also offers an opportunity to be challenged spiritually and encouraged to grow through group sharing, discussions and Bible study with the Media Team. Videographers also have opportunities to join in the camp program and events as well as be involved in relational ministry to campers as their schedule allows.
Photographers must have completed their senior year of high-school at minimum. They will work on a relatively small Media Team to capture camp in action. Photographers must have some previous experience in photography and photo editing and will be required to submit previous work. They should be self-motivated, organized, creative, and have an eye for excellence. They are directly managed by the Media Team Boss.
Photographers follow a shooting schedule. Each day they shoot, organize and edit photos and are required to submit a quota of high-quality pictures for the day. Then, they upload that day’s pictures to our website for parents and families to review and enjoy. Occasionally Photographers assist the Videographers in shooting and editing video footage.
The position of Photographer offers an opportunity to develop technical skills and produce quality, resume-boosting work in the field of digital media. It also offers an opportunity to be challenged spiritually and encouraged to grow through group sharing, discussions and Bible study with the Media Team. Photographers also have opportunities to join in the camp program and events as well as be involved in relational ministry to campers as their schedule allows.
Activities Team (A-team) members must have completed their freshman year of college at minimum. They will work on a relatively small team of people to facilitate activities at camp. A-team members must be responsible, self-motivated, service oriented, and willing to be active and spend long hours facilitating outside. They are directly managed by the Activities Team Boss.
The Activities Team is generally responsible for the set-up, execution, and clean-up of all camp activities. A-team members must commit to pre-camp activities trainings to become lifeguard and high-ropes certified. An A-team member’s role is to assist in all areas of activity facilitation at both youth camps – Singing Hills and Echo Valley. A-team members must also be flexible about assignments related to camp needs as they occur. A-team members contribute significantly to our ministry by helping organize fun, challenging, memorable outdoor experiences which lead to conversations and relationship development.
The position of A-team offers an incredible opportunity to gain experience in the facilitation of outdoor recreation and leadership. It also offers an opportunity to be challenged spiritually and encouraged to grow through group sharing, discussions and Bible study with the A-team. A-team members also have opportunities to join in the camp program and events as well as be involved in relational ministry to campers as their schedule allows.
Central Staff members must have completed their sophomore year of college at minimum. Typically, they have had experience on staff with LLYC in previous summers. Central Staff members are the leadership staff and team bosses at each camp, Singing Hills or Echo Valley. Central Staff members must be responsible, trustworthy, comfortable directing their peers, spiritually mature and skilled relationally. They are directly managed by the Camp Directors.
Central Staff positions include: Programmer, Work Crew Boss, Program Crew Boss, Round-up Coordinator, Kitchen Leadership, Activities Boss, Canyon Club Boss, Media Boss, Sugar Shack Boss, Healthcare Assistant, Special Events Coordinator, Guys Side Boss, and Girls Side Boss. Central Staff responsibilities are significantly varied depending on the position, but all Central Staff share the responsibility of ensuring the overall supervision and leadership of camp staff, as well as the execution of every element of our camp program. All staff will directly report to one or more central staff members and most Central Staffers directly manage a team.
Central Staffers play a critical role in our ministry. They manage and lead staff members in job related tasks, while also providing spiritual encouragement and guidance. A position on Central Staff offers an opportunity to gain skills in leadership, management, ministry, and spiritual guidance. Leadership roles like this are rare for college aged staff and provide valuable work experience which boosts resumes and prepares young leaders to make waves in a variety of future careers. For that reason, these positions are highly coveted and limited to exceptionally qualified candidates.
Most of our medical positions require professional licenses, with the exception of our college-aged healthcare assistants (see General Job Descriptions below). Scheduling begins in December each year.

Healthcare Practitioners are Texas-licensed physicians or nurse practitioners who provide medical care and oversight to campers and staff at LLYC. This role provides medical evaluation and care for camper and staff illness and injuries that go beyond the Registered Nurses scope of practice.
This is a volunteer position, but medical liability insurance is provided. Additionally, if you work a full week, you are eligible for one free LLYC camp session.

The Residential Camp Nurse is responsible for the health and safety for the campers and staff at their assigned campsite, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, supervising the healthcare assistants, and accessing the camp physician for medical consultation.

Healthcare Assistants have completed their sophomore year of college at minimum. LLYC hires two Singing Hills Healthcare Assistants and three Echo Valley Healthcare Assistants.
Healthcare Assistants must be organized and loving caregivers. They must also possess the ability to remain calm, be quick on their feet, and follow protocol in emergency situations. They are directly managed by the Camp Nurse.
Healthcare Assistants are the front lines of our medical care for campers and staff. They administer medications and treat minor injuries and illnesses under the supervision of the Camp Nurse or Practitioner.
They maintain our medical logs as well as coordinate medical coverage and treatments with the visiting Camp Practitioner. Healthcare Assistants are also on call in case of medical emergencies day or night.
The position of Healthcare Assistant offers an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on medical experience in a high-volume healthcare clinic. Assistants will directly observe frequent and varied diagnoses as well as participate in the treatment of patients for numerous types of minor traumas and illnesses. The HCA role has the potential to complete approximately 515 clinical hours that can count for pre-healthcare track required clinical hours.
